On 23 June 2022, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen organised a Talk Session at the Asia House on “Thailand and ASEAN in transition” by H.E. Ambassador Sihasak Phuangketkeow, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Special Advisor for Foreign Affairs at the Office of Eastern Economic Corridor of Thailand. Ambassador Phuangketkeow focused his lecture on geopolitical situation and regional challenges, the role of Thailand and ASEAN in maintaining the balance of power and its centrality in the current situation, cooperation in Indo-Pacific, major trade and investment trends in today's world where Asia is the direction of trade power and ASEAN is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
He particularly emphasised on the importance of Thailand which has long benefited from its strategic location at the heart of Southeast Asia and has now developed the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), a large business and investment zone aiming to directly attract foreign investors and businesses that use advanced technology and innovation, with a vision of transforming Thailand to become an innovation hub of Southeast Asia. Finally, he talked about the establishment of a smart city in the EEC area as the future of the Thai economy that grows with quality, sustainability, protection of environment and green energy under the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic models and further invited Danish investors to take part in this megaproject. This event was attended by Danish entrepreneurs, academics, journalists, representative from the ASEAN section and a Thai desk officer from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from foreign diplomatic missions in Denmark.
