From 18 - 24 September 2025, H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Lithuania with residence in Copenhagen, together with Mr. Puwit Wisartsakul, Deputy Head of Mission/Minister Counsellor, paid a visit to Lithuania to strengthen bilateral cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and cybersecurity, as well as to foster linkages between Thai and Lithuanian institutions.
On 18 September 2025, H.E. the Ambassador attended Life Sciences Baltics 2025 in Vilnius to explore opportunities and networks for Thailand–Lithuania cooperation in life sciences. Life Sciences Baltics, organized biennially by the Innovation Agency Lithuania in collaboration with scientific and business partners, is the largest life sciences conference and exhibition in the Baltic region. The event convenes entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, and policymakers from more than 40 countries in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and digital health. Lithuania is recognized as one of the fastest-growing life sciences hubs in the EU, aiming to expand the sector to 5% of its GDP by 2030.
On 19 September 2025, the Ambassador met with Mr. Antanas Aleknavičius, Director of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), to discuss strengthening cooperation on cybersecurity, particularly in developing knowledge and enhancing capacity to counter hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, online scams, and disinformation. The NCSC, under the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania, is the lead agency responsible for safeguarding national cybersecurity, setting standards, and providing guidance to government agencies and the private sector.
On 22 September 2025, the Ambassador led Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and delegation, to meet with Mr. Gediminas Pauliukevičius, CEO of Northtown Vilnius, the management body of Vilnius City Innovation Industrial Park (VCIIP). The delegation also visited VCIIP, Lithuania’s first innovation industrial park designated as a “National Economic Priority Project.” The park provides infrastructure for research centers, laboratories, factories, and leading scientific institutions, with the vision to attract innovation-driven investment, strengthen business–science collaboration, and enhance Lithuania’s innovation ecosystem.
On 23 September 2025, the Ambassador and delegation held discussions with Ms. Patricija Reut, Acting CEO of Innovation Agency Lithuania, on expanding cooperation in innovation between Thailand and Lithuania, including cybersecurity, fintech, digital economy, life sciences, and medical technologies. Both sides also discussed the negotiation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) and Innovation Agency Lithuania to promote partnership in the life sciences sector.
On 24 September 2025, the Ambassador and delegation visited Vilnius University, one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, and met with Dr. Artūras Vasiliauskas, Pro-Rector for Partnerships. Both sides discussed possible cooperation between Vilnius University and Thai universities, particularly in the fields of science, technology, innovation and Asian studies, including student and researcher exchanges as well as knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Through this visit, the Ambassador underlined Thailand’s commitment to advancing “Science Diplomacy” and building sustainable partnerships with Lithuania, while opening new avenues of cooperation in life sciences, digital innovation, cybersecurity, and higher education.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen attaches great importance to advancing “Science Diplomacy” with the Republic of Lithuania, given Lithuania’s recognized strengths in digital technologies, life sciences, medical and health innovations, innovation ecosystem, cyber security, and space technology. These areas align closely with Thailand’s national development strategies and its Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy policy. Strengthening cooperation in these fields not only elevates bilateral relations but also creates opportunities for both countries to jointly develop knowledge, foster innovation, and contribute to sustainable development at regional and global levels.
