On 11 April 2023, H.E. Ms.Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, accompanied by Mr. Teerakarn Savetsila, Counsellor, visit International School of Hellerup (ISH) and had a meeting with Mr. Stef Fleets, Primary School Principal, to promote further cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy and the School. In the past years, several activities aimed to foster cultural exchange and learning were organized by both sides. In 2021, a group of primary school students from ISH visited the Embassy as part of their fieldtrip. In that occasion, they had an opportunity to learn more about the history of the Embassy, and the relation between Thailand and Denmark, as well as to spectate a demonstration of Thai culture and traditional performances. A year later, the Embassy arranged for Moradokmai Theatre Troupe, a Thai youth artist group, to perform a play and Thai traditional dances at the school campus for the students.
In this occasion, the Ambassador thanked the School for its readiness to welcome Ajarn Jayasaro, a highly revered British-born Buddhist monk, in May of this year, to conduct an interfaith session on Buddhism with approximately 95 students from grade 4 – 5. The upcoming event would be a part of a class to expand the knowledge on world beliefs and religions. In this regard, Mr. Fleet reiterated the vision and policy of the School which emphasized awareness and acceptance of different cultures and identities of each and every students to promote a universal concept of social harmony.
After the meeting concluded, Mr. Fleets led the Ambassador on a tour of the Hellerup campus. Currently, ISH comprises of approximately 700 students, with students of Primary Year Programme (PYP) at the Hellerup campus, and students of Middle Year Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP/High School) at Østerbro Campus. The latter groups were moved since 2021 to accommodate an expanding student body.
