On Sunday 21 August 2022, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen in cooperation with the Moesgaard Museum organized a Thai festival at Thai House at Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus between 11:00 a.m. and 16:30 p.m. H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark gave an opening remarks at the Thai festival, together with Mr. Mads Kähler Holst, Director of Moesgaard Museum, Mr. Andreas Roepstorff, Head of the Institute, Aarhus University and the guest of honour Mr. Rabih Azad-Ahmad, Cultural Council from Aarhus Municipality who also attended the opening ceremony.
The Thai festival this year was organized in a temple fair theme. Flags stripes and northern-style traditional flags were decorated to simulate the atmosphere of the festive and joyous Thai temple fair. In the event, there were activities that showcased beautiful cultural traditions of Thailand for Danish people to enjoy in a variety of ways ranging from the morning ritual of praying and making merit, long drum procession to lead monk to sprinkle holy water at the Thai house to Thai traditional dance performances, Thai music, Thai boxing, Thai folk songs, jazz performance by the Pathorn Srikaranonda Quartet, and quizzes about Thailand to win prizes on stage. In addition, there were variety of booths presenting Thai fruits carving, Thai dessert cooking, Thai massage, Thai arts and crafts, Thai products, Thai tourism and kid corner where children enjoyed drawing and painting of paper umbrellas and bookmarks as well as Thai food stalls and beverage kiosks such as Thai tea, Thai coffee (O Liang) and Singha beer. A mobile consular service was also provided for Thai people in parallel with the festival.
The organization of Thai festival this year has been a great success, with over 2,500 - 3,000 visitors throughout the day. This was the fourth Thai festival since 2009, 2011 and 2013 at Thai House of Moesgaard Museum, which is a traditional Thai wooden house from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, located at Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus since 1975. It is the only foreign piece of architecture within the grounds of the Moesgaard Museum and represents the long-standing friendship between Thailand and Denmark that dates back more than 400 years.
The Royal Thai Embassy takes this opportunity to thank the Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus, the Thai Heritage Group-Aarhus, Sawasdee Thai-Danish Association, Danish Muaythai Federation, Tourism Authority of Thailand in Stockholm, performers and all Thai communities for their contributions to the successful organization of this Thai festival. On this occasion, Her Excellency the Ambassador also gave a sum of 50,000 baht to Mrs. Sirirat Srivuttiiphong, President of the Thai Heritage Group-Aarhus, to be used in activities that benefit to the Thai communities.
