On 23 October 2026, at 9.15 a.m., H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, led officials and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen, together with the Director of the Thai Trade Center in Copenhagen, in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Embassy, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V) and in tribute to His Majesty’s benevolence. The ceremony honoured His Majesty’s exceptional capabilities and far-sighted vision in reforming the country and laying the foundations for its modernisation, thereby bringing progress, prosperity and well-being to the Thai people.

Later, at 10.00 a.m., the Ambassador led the delegation to Asia House to lay a wreath in homage to the equestrian statue of King Chulalongkorn, which is located at the premises. On this occasion, the Ambassador and the delegation joined representatives of Asia House and the Thai community in Denmark in a Buddhist merit-making ceremony, during which food offerings for the monks and ceremonial offerings were presented to monks from Wat Pa Copenhagen.

King Chulalongkorn visited Denmark on two occasions in 1897 and 1907. These visits marked significant milestones in the history of Thai-Danish relations and contributed to Siam’s transformation into a modern state. During his travels, His Majesty studied Denmark’s advances in technology, culture and public administration, which he subsequently applied to the development of the country. He also fostered royal relations and cultivated ties with prominent Danish figures in academic and business circles, who played important roles in promoting cooperation in defence, trade and technology. His Majesty’s far-sighted vision and diplomatic acumen helped lay the foundations for the close and equal partnership between Thailand and Denmark, which has continued to develop to this day.
