On 24 April 2023, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark led the delegation of teachers from Roong Aroon School, an alternative school in Thailand, to visit Playlab Campus Carlberg. Mr. Tobias Heiberg, Head of Playful Learning Programme, extended a warm welcomed and provided an overview about the concept and operation of Playlab, a teacher training institution under the University College Copenhagen. According to Mr. Heiberg, the training uses a “Play and Learn” philosophy which aims to change the mindset of teachers, who traditionally instruct by using powerpoints, and provide them with direct experience of playing different games, having fun and opening themselves up. By allowing teachers experience childhood again, they can manifest and comprehend the sentiments and needs of children who enjoy playing. The teachers then design a structured learning plan based on a tool called “the Play Wheel” for students to play, learn and experiment. This new approach of teacher training creates an effective teaching method that makes learning fun for children and encourages creativity.

After that, the delegation visited the Experimentarium which was designed to be a large laboratory that simulates toys for children from the real materials in all areas of science and technical work in various professions. The simulation provides children with experience of playing from real things around them which appeal to children and make them want to learn, play for real, do for real, and solve problems from self-observation. This is another kind of "Play and Learn" method that helps make children gain experiences, deep understanding and memory. The Experimentarium is located in Copenhagen. It is considered the world's leading science and technology learning center for both children and adults. It was established in 1991 with the goal of creating knowledge and understanding about science and technology that affect life through play and experimentation. Various instruments are designed to be touched, controlled and played with hands and brains, as well as the use of learning psychology.
