On 13 June 2023, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, together with Miss Nitchaporn Varnapruk, Director of the Thai Trade Center Nordic in Copenhagen, and Mr. Jaya Patrachai, Counsellor, met with Mr. Jens Holst-Nielsen, Underdirektør/Director of International Trade and Market Development of the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) and Mr. Soren Falk, DI's Leading International Advisor, to seek support for Thailand’s candidature to host the Specialized Expo 2028 in Phuket which will be the first global Expo in Southeast Asia.
Her Excellency the Ambassador highlighted the potential of Phuket as a regional hub of medical tourism. The city’s development strategy aims for creating a healthy and sustainable living. It is also the gateway to ASEAN with fast growing economies and a market of over 620 million consumers. In addition, both sides also discussed ways to promote trade cooperation between Thailand and Denmark and bringing business groups from Denmark to participate in various trade fairs and exhibitions in Thailand, as well as expanding investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of Thailand that aims to promote investment in the BCG (Bio-Circular-Green) industries in which Denmark has technologies and expertises.
DI is Denmark's largest employer-representative business organization. Its members consist of more than 20,000 Danish companies from different manufacturing and service sectors. DI plays a key role in shaping the Danish labour market and update Danish business regulations to comply with EU and international regulations.
