Type of visa Validity of visa Period of stay
Transit Visa – This type of visa must be used to enterThailand within 3 months from the date of issue. Not exceeding 30 days for EACH entry.
Tourist Visa – A single-entry visa must be used to enter Thailand within 3 months from the date of issue.- A multiple-entry visa must be used to enter Thailand within 6 months from the date of issue. Not exceeding 60 days for EACH entry.
Non-Immigrant Visa – A single-entry must be used to enter Thailand within 3 months from the date of issue.- A multiple-entry visa must be used to enter Thailand within 1 year from the date of issue. When entering Thailand, the Immigration officer at the entry point will grant a 90-day stay. This is an initial period of stay for this type of visa.For an extension of stay beyond 90 days, application must be made at the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.

 

REMARKS:

  • Do NOT apply for a visa earlier than 3 months before you will arrive in Thailand. (The best time to apply for a visa is approximatly 4 weeks before traveling.)

What is the difference between “Validity of Visa” and “Period of Stay”?

Meaning Validity of visa Period of stay

The period during which a visa can be used to enter Thailand.

 

  • Example I: a single-entry Tourist visa and Non-Immigrant visa usually has a validity of 3 months from the date of issue. If your visa is issued on 01 January, it will expire on 31 March. This means that you have to enter Thailand no later than 31 March.

 

  • Example II: a multiple-entry Non-Immigrant visa has a validity period of 1 year from the date of issue. If your visa is issued on 01 January, it will expire on 31 December. This means that you must enter Thailand within 01 January-31 December period. You have to use the last entry of your visa by 31 December. Your visa is no longer valid after 31 December.
