The Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen would like to commemorate the remembrance on 20th anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami on 26 December 2004 which inflicted widespread destruction in Thailand and more than 10 other countries causing more than 200,000 casualties. During such a hard time, Thailand received an outpouring of support from partners around the globe both in assisting disaster victims and community rehabilitation.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand hosted an event titled “20 Years On: Remembering the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami” at the Ministry in Bangkok on 21 November 2024. The remembrance ceremony on the losses from the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami was held to announce Thailand’s additional contribution of 500,000 USD (approximately 16,260,000 Baht) to the ESCAP Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Tsunami, Disaster, and Climate Preparedness, of which Thailand was the founder in 2005.
