The Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand invited Professor Jan Westenkaer Thomsen, an Quantum expert from the Niels Bohr Institute to visit Thailand during 17-20 September 2023 in order to promote cooperation between Thailand and Denmark in quantum technology and innovation, especially with the Niels Bohr Institute, Denmark's famous world-class physics research institute, under the affiliation of the University of Copenhagen
On 18 September 2023, Professor Jan W. Thomsen visited the Metrology Institute which has similar research in the atomic clock, that helps increase the efficiency of Thailand's time and frequency infrastructure and also affect dimensional and electrical measurements to be more accurate. It is also a basic tool for research in quantum technology, both in Quantum Metrology and Sensing or quantum computers.
Then, on 19 September 2023, Professor Jan W. Thomsen visited the Quantum Technology Laboratory of Suranaree University of Technology and the Synchrotron Light Research Institute. (Public Organization) in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. He was welcomed by Professor Dr. Neung Teaumroong, Vice President for Research and Technology Development, along with Associate Professor Dr. Worawat Meewasana, Department of Physics, Head of the Quantum Technology Project in Thailand.
Later, on 20 September 2023, Professor Jan W. Thomsen gave a lecture at the seminar “Denmark-Thailand Quantum Technology Seminar” organized at The Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok. He presented the progress and push for quantum technology in Denmark with cooperation from both the public and private sectors as well as extensive application of quantum technology in business sector. This served as motivation for Thai researchers to create and develop works to fulfill the demands of the Thai industries and advance technological development internationally in the future.
On this occasion, Professor Jan W. Thomsen had discussions with Thai agencies, as well as Thai researchers of the Quantum Consortium Group to exchange opinions on the development and transfer of quantum technology, as well as create a network of cooperation in quantum technology between Thailand and Denmark in the future.
