Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark led Thai Delegation to Organic Summit 2025 and met with leading Danish universities

From 17 to 21 August 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen, led by H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, together with Counsellor Jaya Phatchai and Ms. Kanchana van Gorp, Thailand and Nordic Countries Innovation Unit (TNIU)’s officer, led the Thai delegation to participate in Organic Summit 2025. The Thai delegation comprised of Dr. Jeerasak Chobtang, Ruminant Nutrition Specialist, Department of Livestock, Associate Professor Dr. Jirarat Anuntagool and Mrs. Supawadee Nakban, a Ph.D. candidate from Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University; as well as Ms. Sirinporn Deawtrakool, Deputy Executive Director and executives from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).
 
The activities commenced on 17 August 2025 with the Organic Summer Event, organized by the Danish Agriculture & Food Council (DAFC) at the Axelborg building. The Thai delegation met with Danish producers who presented their organic products and organic farming practices, which aim to promote environmentally friendly production. In the event, 27 organic food companies participated in the exhibition and introduced their products, giving visitors the opportunity to test a variety of organic products and directly learn from the producers about organic production processes, leading to an exchange of know-how about innovations in organic farming that make Denmark a world leader in sustainable agriculture.

During 18–19 August 2025, Her Excellency the Ambassador led the Thai delegation to participate in the Organic Summit 2025 at the Black Diamond in Copenhagen. Ms. Lise Christiansen Walbom, CEO of Food Nation Denmark, warmly welcomed the Thai delegation. The event was attended by approximately 400 participants from government agencies, academia, and industry leaders from all over the world. The Organic Summit 2025 served as an international forum on organic agricultural policy, focusing on exchanging views and practices to drive the organic agricultural system towards sustainability, under the theme "Food for All on a Healthy Planet." Mr. Lars Weiss, Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, gave an opening address emphasizing on the policy of Copenhagen Municipality’s canteens to use 90% organic products in their food preparation. The Summit also featured discussions on increasing the proportion of organic agriculture, regenerative agricology, biodiversity, animal welfare, and developing financial and investment strategies to expand organic production and markets. The conference reflected on the future direction of the European Union's (EU) Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which emphasizes the use of public funds for public goods through public procurement to create value chains for organic products and drive sustainable organic farming systems. This included empowering farmers through cooperatives, establishing organic farming systems which take into account the environment and animal welfare, as well as developing technologies and innovations to achieve a 25% organic share in the EU by 2030. The Summit also provided opportunities for participants to exchange best practices, scale up organic solutions, and explore new opportunities in science, technology, innovation, and business. The participation of the Thai delegation reflected Thailand's commitment to developing the organic sector, promoting food security, and opportunities for cooperation between Thailand and Denmark.

On 20 August 2025, Ambassador and the Thai delegation participated in the study tour “From Table to Soil” to leading Danish organizations that promote sustainability throughout the organic food value chain, from production to consumption. The visit began at MENY, a Danish supermarket chain that encourages environmentally friendly consumption and offers a wide range of organic products. The delegation then visited Copenhagen Hospitality College, the vocational college for chefs and hospitality professionals, with a focus on organic food production, innovation and social responsibility. The delegation also visited Engmosegaard, a family-owned organic farm which produces milk, beef, free-ranged chicken and eggs, pork, vegetables, flowers and grains in an integrated sustainable farming system.

Then, on 21 August 2025, Ambassador led the Thai delegation to engage in academic exchanges with leading Danish universities. At the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Anders O. Bjarklev, President of DTU, who gave an introduction of the DTU and discussed possible future academic research collaboration in areas of mutual potential, including exchanges of researchers and students. The Thai delegation also visited advanced research laboratories on Biomass and discussed with Dr. Solange Mussatto, Professor of Biobased Technologies and Sustainability. Dr. Pimlapas Leekitcharoenphon, Senior Researcher at the National Food Institute, who is part of the genomics epidemiology research group, also welcomed the Thai delegation to visit the labs of DTU Food and held a meeting with current Thai students/researchers at DTU to discuss about ways to increase the capabilities of new generation of Thai researchers.

Her Excellency the Ambassador led the Thai delegation to further visit the Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen, where they were welcomed by Professor Colin Ray, Head of Department, and Associate Professor Mahesha Manjunatha Poojary. They also heard a presentation on food innovation research by Mrs. Supawadee Nakbun, a Thai PHD student from Chulalongkorn University who is currently conducting joint research with the University of Copenhagen. The discussions also covered academic and research collaborations between Chulalongkorn University and the University of Copenhagen, including plans to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate student and researcher exchanges and foster future cooperation in food innovation and organic agriculture.

Participation in Organic Summit 2025, the study tour, and academic exchanges reflects Thailand’s strong commitment in promoting sustainable agriculture, organic innovation, and food security, while reinforcing bilateral cooperation with Denmark in these sectors.
