Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark graciously granted consent the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards to perform the “Royal Guards March”, a composition of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great of Thailand, and the “Marsch Siamese” during the ceremonial of the Changing of the Guard in front of the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen on 11 December 2021, in commemoration of His Majesty the Late King’s Birthday Anniversary on 5 December 2021.

Her Excellency Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, and Mr. Theerakun Niyom, her spouse, along with the Embassy staff and family members as well as members of the Thai community attended this event. The Ambassador and her spouse were warmly welcomed by Major H.C. Rørvang, Chief of the Royal Danish Life Guards and Mr. David Palmqvist, Director of the Band prior to the Changing of the Guard.
The “Marsch Siamese” was composed in 1890 by Mr. Hans Niel Hass, the Band Master of the Royal Danish Life Guards at the time, in honour of General Chaophraya Wongsanuprapat (Mom Rajawongse Satarn Snidvongs), Grandfather of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who underwent military training and served in the Royal Danish Army during 1883-1892. The Marsch Siamese therefore symbolises the special and close bonds between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Denmark and the royal families of the two countries.

The tradition of performing the “Marsch Siamese” in front of the Amalienborg Palace, beginning in 2014 with the gracious consent of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
