On 5 June 2024, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark and delegation paid a visit to to Aarhus Municipality’s Department of Innovation, Technology and Creativity (ITK) at Dok1 building at the waterfront of the Bay of Aarhus. Mr. Bo Fristed, Chief of ITK, welcomed and gave a briefing about the ITK with the missions to promote a culture of innovation which can strengthen the city's digital infrastructure and to support sustainable urban development. The ITK collaborates with various sectors of the city, including citizen participation, in order to enable the municipality to use innovations to effectively serve the public, in particular the digital services that are key component of Smart Aarhus.
Afterwards, Mr. Fristed led Her the delegation to visit the Aarhus Municipality which includes public spaces like public library, cultural center, municipal public services for issuing ID cards and passports, area for seniors to access to information technology, children's play area, as well as Smart City Lab for young people and university students, entrepreneurs, startups, and other organizations who can use the lab to develop new solutions for smart city.
On this occasion, the Ambassador exchanged opinions about the development of liveable cities in various provinces of Thailand which are interested in exchanging knowledges and experiences with smart cities in various countries, including Aarhus that has made progress in utilizing technology and innovation to manage the city and improve the quality of life of its citizens. Thailand can learn from Smart Aarhus model to develop smart cities in Thailand and foster cooperation to form sister cities for sustainable development between each other in the future.
