On 6 September 2024, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Lithuania with residence in Copenhagen, together with Mr. Puwit Wisartsakul, Counsellor met with Ms. Indrė Balčiūnaitė, Head of Global Partnerships Unit, Innovation Agency Lithuania to follow up on Ms. Balčiūnaitė’s visit to Thailand at the invitation of the Royal Thai Embassy to meet with Thailand’s National Innovation Agency (NIA), Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) and Thai Fintech Association (TFA). Ms. Balčiūnaitė informed that she is pleased to visit Thailand for the first time as it allows her to gain direct experience on Thailand's progress and potential in various fields of innovation as well as the digital economy that is expanding in the country. As Lithuania aims to establish an innovation hub in Asia, Thailand could be used as a base to expand Lithuania's innovation trade and investment market in the region. The meeting with NIA, DEPA, and TFA executives also enabled the creation of a network of cooperation on innovation between the two countries. The Ambassador emphasized Thailand's potential to be a regional hub, to serve as an investment base for foreign investors in digital industry and the government’s policies that provide benefits to investors in establishing regional offices in Thailand. She also urged the Lithuanian side to take advantage of the many regional technology and innovation fairs held in Thailand to open up the market for Lithuania in the Indo-Pacific.
