Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark attended Songkran Day ceremony at Watpa Lolland

On Saturday 20 April 2024, H.E. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, together with Mr. Teerakarn Savetsila, Consul, and his spouse, attended Songkran Day ceremony at Watpa Lolland in the south of Copenhagen. The activities of the ceremony were a morning prayer, merit making and pouring of water on Buddha statue and on the hands of monks for blessing. The ceremony was attended by many local Thai nationals and Danes alike.

In this occasion, the Ambassador delivered a speech to the Thai community in which she praised the members of the local Thai community on their significant role of preserving the tradition of Songkran which was recognized as UNESCO’s cultural heritage. She then commended those who voluntarily arrange the alms houses, and gave blessing to all participants in the occasion of Thai new year. The Ambassador also took this opportunity to invite members of the Thai community to participate in a tree planting activity to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2024. The event will be held on Thursday 25 April 2024 at 15.00 hrs. at Greve Skov (Møllevej, 2690 Karlslunde) which is also the Climate Action Day of Denmark. She further provided information on the upcoming Thai Festival 2024 on Saturday 8 June 2024 at Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen, and invited members of the Thai community to participate in the event. In the same occasion, the Consul provided consultation on consular matters to those who attended the ceremony.
