On Friday 3 September 2021 at 10.30 hrs., H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador-designate of Thailand to Denmark, together with Mr. Theerakun Niyom, her spouse, and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy, visited Museum Østjylland and the Siamese Collection in Ebeltoft. The Ambassador and her delegation were welcomed by Mr. Jørgen Smidt-Jensen, the Museum’s Director, Miss Lea Møller, curator, and Mr. Martin Mauritzen, archivist, who gave an introduction and a tour of the Siamese Collection building, which is now undergoing renovations. The delegation also visited Maltfabrikken, Ebeltoft’s Cultural Centre and Library, which keeps photographs, letters and important documents of Mr. Rasmus Peter Havmøller, an Ebeltoft native who lived in Thailand during 1914-1933, and Mrs. Boonsri Havmøller, his Thai wife, who founded the Siamese Collection in Ebeltoft in 1940.

During the visit, the Ambassador exchanged ideas with the Museum’s Director on possible cooperation to organize an activity to launch the reopening of the Siamese Collection, which is expected to take place in the summer of 2022, as well as other activities to strengthen the people-to-people relations between Thailand and Denmark, on the occasion of the 400th Anniversary of the First Contact between Thailand and Denmark in 2021.
