On 9th November 2023, H.E. Ms. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, together with Mr. Teerakarn Savetsila, Consul, visited 107 Thai workers in Vordinborg. These workers are employed in a project to construct Storstroem Bridge which will connect the Island of Zealand and the Island of Lolland in Denmark. The Ambassador was welcomed by Mr. Barry Crouchman, Project Manager, Mr. Alexander Hoyes, Construction Manager, and Mr. Finn Willecke, HR Business Partner, from Storstroem Bridge Joint Venture I\S (SBJV I\S), a company which is responsible for the project.
In this occasion, the Ambassador met the representatives of Thai workers at the company’s office and conversed with them about their assigned construction responsibilities, working hours, welfare and benefits as well as living condition in Denmark. Additionally, the Ambassador also visited Thai workers at the construction site, as well as the factories which produced parts for the bridge and the living quarters of the Thai workers arranged by the company.
These 107 Thai workers were the first-ever group which were employed to participate in a large-scale construction project in Denmark and were regarded as key contributors to the advancement of the project. The Thai workers were also highly praised by the company for their skill sets, efficient working methods, diligent work ethic and disciplines, and great overall attitudes. In this connection, the Ambassador encouraged the workers to uphold the good image of maintaining their good standard and discipline and to follow the rules and regulations in Denmark. Moreover, the Consul provided all relevant contact information of the Embassy to the workers for any further assistance or services needed.
Storstroem Bridge Joint Venture I\S (SBJV I\S) operates as a joint venture between Denmark and Italy to construct Storstroem Bridge, a bridge for a dual-track railway system, and a 2-lane road. The new bridge will replace the existing one which has been in used for a long time. All the Thai workers will return to Thailand when the construction is concluded later next year.
