Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark participated in a visit to Niels Bohr Institute with the ASEAN Committee in Copenhagen (ACC)

On 9th March 2023, H.E. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark participated in a visit to Niels Bohr Institute to learn more about quantum technology with the ASEAN Committee in Copenhagen (ACC). The visit, organized by the Embassy of Indonesia as the Chair of the ACC, was joined by the Ambassadors of the Philippines and Vietnam, a representative from the Embassy of Indonesia, and diplomats from the Embassies of ASEAN member countries.
Mr. Jan W. Thomsen, Head of Department, together with a team which comprised of faculty members and an expert, welcomed and briefed the ACC on the roles of the institute in promoting the development of quantum technology and its researches in Denmark, as well as its applications in various fields. On this occasion, the Ambassador discussed with the Head of Department regarding a potential cooperation between the Institute and a quantum technology research center in Thailand under the auspices of Thailand’s National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). Additionally, the ACC also visited a lab which conducted researches and experiments related to quantum communications and another one which developed an atomic clock.
Niels Bohr Institute is a world - renowned physics research institute in Denmark under the University of Copenhagen. The Institute was founded by Professor Niels Bohr, a Danish Physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. Currently, the Institute conducts a multitude of researches and provides education programs in Physics which includes quantum technology, biophysics, and geophysics. In this occasion, Mr. Thomsen also guided the ACC on a tour to Professor Bohr’s office situated at the Institute which has been well – preserved in its conditions.
