On 24 September 2024, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, and Mr. Theerakun Niyom, her spouse, hosted the 8th Thai cooking class for members of the Ambassadors’ Spouse Group (ASG) in Denmark at the Thai Residence. Chef Chumpol Jangprai, a famous Thai chef, demonstrated the cooking of 4 courses served to the participants namely Somtam Thai (Papaya Salad), Tom Yum Goong (Thai Spicy Shrimp Soup), Thai Rice Noodles with Crab Curry, and Mango Sticky Rice. The class received close attention by participants from 11 countries: Georgia, Japan, Romania, Egypt, India, Czech Republic, Israel, Pakistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Bulgaria, as well as Danish guests.
In addition to the Thai cooking demonstration, the event also featured Thai traditional music and Khon (masked dance) performances by the Moradokmai Theatre Community as well as Thai traditional dance of the 4 Regions performed by the Siam Smile Group which was sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Thai curry paste, Thai recipes, and gold-patterned cloth bags were also given as souvenirs to the participants.
“Chef Chumpol Jangprai” is the owner of R-HAAN, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant for four consecutive years, the founder of the Thai Culinary Academy, and the chef who designed and created Thai food menus based on the concept “Future Food for Sustainability” served to world leaders at the 29th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting held in Thailand in 2022.
