His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark graciously granted consent to the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards to perform the “Marsch Siamese” during the ceremonial of the Changing of the Guard in front of the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen on 5 December 2024, in commemoration of His Majesty the Late King’s Birthday Anniversary on 5 December 2024. Her Excellency Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, and Mr. Theerakun Niyom, her spouse, along with Group Captain Putthapong Phalajivin, Air Attache of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Kingdom of Denmark, the Embassy’s staffs and family members as well as members of the Thai community attended this event.
After the ceremonial of the Changing of the Guard, the Ambassador was welcomed by Mr. Jesper Hyllested, representative of the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards, at the Life Guards Barrack in the area of the Rosenborg Palace. The Ambassador expressed her gratitude to the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards for performing the “Marsch Siamese” every year on 5 December, which is a symbol of the special and long-standing relationship between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Denmark which has lasted for more than 400 years since the first contact and is celebrating the 166th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, as well as demonstrating the close bond between the royal families of both countries.
The “Marsch Siamese” was composed in 1890 by Mr. Hans Niel Hass, the Band Master of the Royal Danish Life Guards at the time, in honour of General Chaophraya Wongsanuprapat (Mom Rajawongse Satarn Snidvongs), Grandfather of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who underwent military training and served in the Royal Danish Army during 1883-1892.
