On 23 October 2025, H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, led the officials of the Royal Thai Embassy together with their spouses and staff, to lay a wreath in homage at the Embassy, marking the anniversary of the passing of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V).
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the Ambassador led a delegation to the Asia House to participate in a Buddhist merit-making ceremony, offering alms and monastic requisites to three monks from Wat Pa Copenhagen, together with representatives of the Thai community, Asia House, and 10 students from Niels Brock International Business College, in remembrance of the passing of the great King. Additionally, a wreath was also laid before King Chulalongkorn’s Equestrian Statue at the Asia House.

On the same day, the Royal Thai Embassy organized the exhibition “King Chulalongkorn in Denmark: Shaping Modern Siam through Friendship” at Asia House to commemorate His Majesty King Chulalongkorn’s visits to Europe, particularly to Denmark, in 1897 and 1907. These visits marked a significant period in Thai history that greatly influenced the modernization of Siam and laid the foundation for a strong and enduring relationship between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Denmark.
The exhibition was attended by around 50 participants including the descendants of Admiral Phraya Chalayutthayothin (Andreas du Plessis de Richelieu), representatives of the Thai community, Friends of Thailand, and Danish students from Niels Brock International Business College. Her Excellency the Ambassador officially opened the exhibition and gave the opening remarks to commemorate the visits of King Chulalongkorn to Denmark in 1897 and 1907, which were considered to be significant historical events that greatly influenced the reform of Siam into a modern state and marked the beginning of the long-standing close and mutually beneficial bilateral relations between Thailand and Denmark. Ms. Dewi Dylander, CEO of Asia House, then gave welcoming remarks about the work of Asia House which holds significance as the headquarter of EAC. Afterwards, Mr. Jesper Kurt Nielsen, historian and curator at the National Museum in Copenhagen, delivered a special lecture titled “His Majesty King Chulalongkorn’s Visits to Denmark and Their Lasting Impact.” He highlighted the significance of the King’s visits in 1897 and 1907, noting that they contributed to Thailand’s stability and modernization, and strengthened diplomatic relations with Denmark. During these visits, His Majesty studied European technology, culture, and administrative systems to apply them in governing Siam, while also cultivating relationships with Danish royalty, scholars, and business figures who were influential in defense, trade, and technology. These interactions subsequently led to the active involvement of several Danish individuals in Siamese affairs at that time, reflecting His Majesty’s vision and diplomatic skill which has created long-lasting friendship and bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Denmark up to the present days.
