On 6 September 2024, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Lithuania with residence in Copenhagen, met with H.E. Mr. Egidijus Meilūnas, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. The Ambassador thanked Mr. Meilūnas for leading a delegation to visit Thailand to co-chair the 4th Political Consultation between Thailand and Lithuania on 18 June 2024. She congratulated the success of the meeting which has helped strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, including the signing of the Agreement between the Republic of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Thailand on the exemption of visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and official or service passports during the visit. In addition, both sides also discussed the following up on the results of the Political Consultation especially cooperation in the digital field, medical technology, life sciences and cybersecurity. The Ambassador also informed about the Embassy’s projects to translate the results of the Political Consultation into a tangible outcome which include the invitation of innovation and medical technology experts from Lithuania to visit Thailand in September 2024 as well as a plan to invite Lithuania’s cybersecurity experts to visit Thailand during 2025. Moreover, both sides also discussed ways to promote economic cooperation by using Thailand's potential as a base for expanding Lithuania's trade and investment markets in the Indo-Pacific region. The Lithuanian side expressed its willingness to share the experience of becoming a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with Thailand. The two sides also exchanged views on global issues and cooperation in various multilateral frameworks.
