On 26 May 2022, Mr. Krai Mahasandana, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, attended the handing over of 1,266,000 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines from the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Royal Thai Government. H.E. Mr. Jon Thorgaard, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Thailand, and Dr. Sopon Iamsirithaworn, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, presided over the event as representatives of their respective governments.
The donation by the Kingdom of Denmark on this occasion is a testament to the long-standing friendship between Thailand and Denmark, after the two countries jointly commemorated the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Thai-Danish diplomatic relations in 2021.
This donation is the result of close cooperation among the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Danish Embassy, the Department of Disease Control, and the Statens Serum Institute of Denmark. The said vaccines will be distributed to both Thai and foreign citizens in Thailand and along the Thai borders.
