During 25 - 27 May 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen organized mobile consular services and a meeting with members of the Thai community on the Faroe Islands at Hotel Hafnia in Tórshavn, the Capital of the Islands. Almost 30 Thai nationals from across the Islands received services including passport service, legalization service, registry service, and consultation on consular matters.
In this occasion, H.E. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, met with approximately 40 Thai nationals at the hotel and delivered a speech expressing her pleasure to visit the Faroe Islands and to witness the good livelihoods and works of the Thai community which helped contribute to the Islands’ economy. The Ambassador also commended the works of “Thai Friends in Faroe Islands”, a group of Thais volunteers who helped connect members of the community throughout the Islands and actively promoted Thai culture to the Faroeses which helped strengthen the positive image of the Thais on the Islands. She then encouraged a new generation of Thai on the Islands to participate and support the good works of the group in order to continuously preserve the strength of the community and to maintain a close cooperation with the Embassy in providing protection and assistances to the Thai nationals on the Islands in need. The Ambassador further provided a financial subsidy of 50,000 baht to the representative of the group to support its future endeavors, including the plan to organize a Thai festival on the Faroe Islands in 2025. In the same occasion, she also took this opportunity to encourage the Thai community to organized activities throughout the year to commemorate His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua’s 72nd Birthday Anniversary on 28 August 2024.
During their trip to the Faroe Islands, the Ambassador, together with the delegation from the Embassy, visited local businesses owned by Thai nationals, including a Thai massage shop, a Thai restaurant, and a Thai grocery store. They also visited Thai workers who were employed by local hotel and other restaurants. Moreover, the Ambassador hosted a thank you dinner for the representatives from the group of “Thai Friends in Faroe Islands” for their long-standing cooperation with the Embassy, and their assistance in arranging a successful mobile consular service this year.
The Faroe Islands is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark located in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 1,300 KM from Copenhagen (travel time of around 3 hours by aircraft). The current population of the Islands is 54,642, in which around 220 are Thais. The Faroe Islands are famous for their salmon production industry and breath-taking nature. The Islands have attracted around 110,000 tourist per year.
