On 17th January 2023, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, attended a new year reception hosted by the Government of Greenland at the Office of Greenland Representation in Copenhagen. During the reception the Ambassador met and conversed with Mr. Múte Bourup Egede, Premier of Greenland, and Ms. Vivian Motzfeldt, Foreign Minister of Greenland, regarding the Thai community in Greenland which comprised of around 200 people and mostly worked in the service sector; including hotels, restaurants, and spas. In 2022 the Thai Embassy organized a mobile consular service to Greenland and witnessed that Thai nationals were able to successfully integrate themself with the local community, and contribute greatly to Greenland economy. In this connection, the Ambassador hopes that the Greenlandic government will continue to provide support for the Thai community. The representatives from Greenland were pleased that the Thai community, one of the larger communities of foreign national in Greenland, could live in harmony with the local Greenlandic communities without any incident. They also added that people of Greenland has always welcome Thai nationals with open arms, and Thai restaurants were very popular in Greenland.
 
Greenland is the largest island in the world and situated between the Arctic ocean and the Atlantic ocean in the North Pole region. The island is a self-governed territory under the Kingdom of Denmark with a population of 56,000.
