On 17 August 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen participated in “Diplomats for Equality” event organized for the second time in Copenhagen with participation of 20 Embassies in collaboration with the Copenhagen Pride 2024. There were approximately 50 people participated in Diplomats for Equality, including ambassadors, diplomats and staffs from participating embassies in Copenhagen, marching in the parade holding up the Diplomats for Equality banner starting from Frederiksberg Town Hall to the Copenhagen City Hall square.
Copenhagen Pride 2024 is Denmark's biggest annual human rights festival to campaign for equal rights of LGBTQ+ as well as to combat discrimination against such groups. Thai community in Denmark also participated in the Pride parade in Thai costumes which attracted a large number of tourists and Danish public.
This year, Copenhagen Pride 2024 congratulated Thailand for giving importance to equal and equitable rights for all people in society by the passing of a marriage equality bill by the Thai Parliament in June 2024, paving the way for Thailand to become the first nation in South-East Asia to legalise same-sex marriage. Bangkok Pride Festival 2024 was held last June to celebrate the success.
In addition, Copenhagen Pride 2024 also took note of Thailand’s proposal to host the InterPride Annual General Meeting & World Conference 2025 in Phuket which aims to showcase its progress in gender inclusivity on the global stage as well as its readiness and potential to host the world-class festival World Pride 2030.
