On 8 May 2026, H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikjan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark paid a courtesy call on the representatives of the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC) which is an organization representing the farming and food industry of Denmark including companies, trade and farmers’ associations. The Ambassador met with Mr. Flemming Nør-Pedersen, Deputy CEO, and Mr. Jan O. F. Laustsen, Director of Trade, Markets, and Nutrition. Both sides discussed and exchanged views on how DAFC was established, the roles and responsibilities of DAFC, the overview of the Danish agriculture and food cluster, food safety and animal welfare, sustainable farming and agriculture, as well as the promotion of shared interests of businesses in agriculture and food sector.
The opportunity to meet with and learn from DAFC provides the Royal Thai Embassy with knowledge and insights into the benefits of having a singular representative organization to present a united position of various private entities in the agriculture and food sector, both big and small. This allows concrete policy suggestions with actual impacts to be conveyed directly and clearly to the relevant government agencies. In addition, the Thai side can also benefit from the experience of DAFC on how to add more value to the existing supply chains through the utilization of new technologies and ground-breaking research in order to ensure competitiveness in parallel with sustainability.
DAFC promotes the political influence of the agricultural and food sector in Denmark and the EU, implements research and development programmes, as well as provides expert advice on food safety and veterinary issues, animal health and productivity, animal welfare, environment and energy. The organization also provides support on market access and trade to its members, and advocates a green transition on agriculture and food sector.
