Ambassador of Thailand to Lithuania with residence in Copenhagen visits Lithuania to campaign Specialised Expo 2028 in Phuket

On 15 February 2023, H.E. Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Lithuania with residence in Copenhagen, met with Mr. Marius Gurskas, Acting Head of the Government Communications Department, at the Office of the Prime Minister of Lithuania and Mrs. Sandra Brikaitė, Deputy Director of External Economic Relations and Economic Security Policy Department, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania to seek support for Thailand to host a Specialised Expo 2028 in Phuket during 20 March – 17 June 2028 on the topic of wellness under the theme "Future of Life: Living in Harmony, Sharing Prosperity”.

 

H.E. the Ambassador has presented the potential of Phuket which not only its fame for beautiful landscapes, but also its reputation as a world-class center and destination for health and medical tourism that make Phuket the most appropriate venue for the first global Expo in Southeast Asia. Additionally, in the Expo area of ​​over 22.5 hectare in the north of Phuket Island, thousands of trees will be planted, and various pavilions will be designed with innovation and modern technology, taking into account sustainability and environmental friendliness. There are also learning routes in many areas such as ecology, energy, food production, water management and herbal plants, etc., for the public and participants to visit and study. Moreover, there will be various pavilions for presentation in medical and health innovation, art performances, exhibitions and business meetings between companies from countries around the world.

 

On this occasion, the Ambassador also presented souvenirs from the Thai campaign to the Lithuanian side including a Specialised Expo 2028 - Phuket project book comprehensively outlining the concept and event plan from upstream to downstream packed in a renewable Parawood box and a pavilion model with the “leatherback turtle” shape representing innovative design based on local nature. The leatherback turtle is the world’s largest sea turtle found on Phuket Island and is a symbol of longevity in line with the theme of "wellness" and also reflects the achievements in sustainable conservation of the ecology of Phuket beaches.
