On Saturday 13 April 2024, H.E. Sirilak Niyom, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, together with Mr. Teerakarn Savetsila, Consul, and his spouse, attended Songkran Day ceremony at Watpa Copenhagen. Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year, which were inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, included activities namely a morning prayer to pay respect to Rattana Tri or the Three gems (the Buddha, the Dhammas, and the Sanghas), merit making by offering food to the monks, pouring of water on Buddha statue for blessing, and pouring water on the hands of monks and respected elders for their new year blessing.
In this occasion, the Ambassador delivered a speech to the Thai community in which she commended the large gathering by the members of the community at the ceremony which vitally helped preserve the centuries-old tradition of Songkran and demonstrated the strong bond within the Thai community. Moreover, the Ambassador gave a Thai new year blessing to all Thai and Danes who attended the ceremony, as well as thanks those who voluntary organized the alms houses.
The Ambassador also invite members of the Thai community to participate in a tree planting activity organized by the Embassy to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2024. The event would be held on Thursday 25 April 2024 at 15.00 hrs. at Greve Skov (Møllevej, 2690 Karlslunde). During the ceremony, the Embassy also provided a consultation on consular matters, such as a process to obtain new Thai passports, and birth registration, for those attending the ceremony.
