Translation of Copenhagen Zoo’s news about Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Visit posted on its website ….

“Zoo had today a distinguished visitor of Thailand’s Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Her Royal Highness and her entourage arrived at 10.45 and were received by the Zoo’s executive director, Steffen Stræde.

A tour of the Zoo offered, among other things, a visit to the new polar bear facility, the Arctic Ring, where Her Royal Highness could enjoy the Arctic animals in their icy paradise.

Then we went to the Zoo’s elephant enclosure, where Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn named Zoo’s only two weeks old elephant, as from today reads the name Khao Sok. Young elephant Khao Sok is named after the 740 km2 Khao Sok National Park in southern Thailand, which among other things is known for its elephants.

Khao Sok parents are Chieng Mai and Kungrao, who both came to the Zoo as gifts from the Thai royal family: Chieng-Mai was donated in 1962 and has since 1970 been the father of all the 12 elephants have been born at the Zoo. The mother Kungrao came to the Zoo in 2001, and Khao Sok is her first young.

Zoo CEO, Steffen Stræde, is excited about the royal visit.

“It is a great honor for Zoo that Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has chosen to visit us. We owe it to the Thai royal family, a big thank you for that today we could name the Khao Sok, as the royal family both have donated Khao Sok father and mother. It was even Her Royal Highness who blessed Khao Sok mother, Kungrao, before it was flown from Thailand to Denmark in 2001. Therefore, we are also pleased to show that elephants are thriving in their new facility, “says Steffen Stræde …
