On 2 December 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen hosted a reception at the Vesterhavet Hall, Copenhagen Marriott Hotel, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand and Thailand’s Father’s Day. Around 250 guests attended the reception, consisting of members of diplomatic corps, representatives from Danish public and private sectors, Team Thailand, Friends of Thailand from various circles, and representatives of the Thai community in Denmark.
H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark, delivered a speech in recognition of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s sustainable legacy, especially the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, which is in line with World Soil Day established by the United Nations celebrated also on 5 December to preserve healthy soil and land resources. She also led the participants to share a moment of silence to pay tribute to the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. She highlighted cordial and amiable relations between Thailand and Denmark which has existed for more than 400 years since the first contact. This year also marks the 167th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations which is based on strong relations between the royal families of both countries and is now moving towards an elevated Strategic Partnership, enhancing cooperation in sustainable agriculture, food innovation, green transition, healthcare, digitization, and cybersecurity. In addition, Thailand also reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and world peace, prioritizing human security and promoting the Women, Peace and Security (WPS). Her Excellency the Ambassador also invited guests to taste Thai food using Thai herbs, which hold medicinal properties, providing an opportunity for cooperation in food innovation and life science between Thailand and Denmark.
She also thanked the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards, organizing team, Team Thailand agencies, sponsors and exhibitors, and Thai Select restaurants for their support in the event.
At the end of her speech, Her Excellency the Ambassador invited all to join in a toast for the good health and happiness of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand and His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark.
On this occasion, the Ensemble from the Band of the Royal Danish Life Guards performed the Royal Anthems of Thailand and Denmark, as well as “Marsch Siamese” composed in 1890 by Mr. Hans Niel Hass, the Band Master of the Royal Danish Life Guards at the time, in honor of General Chaophraya Wongsanuprapat (Mom Rajawongse Satarn Snidvongs), Grandfather of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who undertook military training in Denmark at that time. The Marsch Siamese therefore symbolizes the special and close relations between Thailand and Denmark, the royal families of the two countries and their people.
The reception also featured the presentation “Threads of Eternity – The Evolution of Thai Dress” as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother’s contribution in the design of Thai Dress as well as to raise awareness of inscribing “Chud Thai” as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
